STATION TO STATION: Bus shelters I’ve known and loved
I began painting bus shelters in 2023 when I captured a huddle of rather miserable would-be travelers sheltering from the rain. Apart from my enthusiasm for portraying people in everyday settings, I have found the architecture of the shelters themselves interesting. Each is different yet mostly have shared elements such as the red bench. More recently I have been working on an on-going project featuring bus shelters that I use frequently between Seaford and Brighton on the south coast. These are painted on A5 boards, so quite small. My aim is to make at least 12 of these which I will mount together to hopefully exhibit. Watch this space!
Street Musicians
I love to draw and paint street musicians, or ‘Buskers’ because, apart from being an interesting subject, they are usually quite stationary which gives me a chance to capture their pose and something of their features. I like to think I capture too something of their music. Sometimes however I’m captivated by someone who is dancing or moving energetically and this challenges me. I also like to include the interaction between the musician and any passers by.
Seaford Community Garden
During 2025 I created a record of activities taking place by the volunteers in the lovely community gardens in Seaford.
Each month is represented in a monthly painting on paper while the 4 seasons are illustrated on larger canvases. I have also taken a number of photographs, made sketches and taken video footage with the intention of eventually combining these with my illustrations to create a video of the community garden.
Thanks to all the garden volunteers who gave permission to be photographed, sketched and end up in one of my paintings.
